storms pounding north california, oregon, and washington as we speak. nbc's migel almaguer is in san francisco where it is pouring down rain. migel, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we are in the middle of the second weather maker making it through the pacific northwest. i have to tell you, it feels like san francisco is in the bull's eye. it was hammering rain earlier for several hours, then had howling winds. the conditions let up. meteorologists say this is what to expect through the day. as a matter of fact, early in the week in san francisco wednesday, wind speeds topped 80 miles per hour. they're not expecting those type of winds earlier or later today, but they certainly are expecting downed trees and downed power lines to cause them several issues. at the higher elevations, closer to 7,000 feet in the sierra, they're expecting up to a foot of snow, so it is going to be certainly a wet day in the sierra, in the lower elevations, closer in the lower foothills, we expect up to 12 inches of rain by sunday. we're looking at very wet conditions. here in the bay area where t

northwest all the way down into central california. we're talking about rain, wind and mountain snow. you can see the colder air diving in across the rockies here. 41 degrees in minneapolis. that's about it. but warmer air starting to build through the nation's heartland, down across the southern plains. we'll be in the 50s here around new york city. and then by saturday, saturday is still quiet but an area of low pressure will be tracking up the coast off the southeast coast. that will bring large swells, continued swells across the ouncer banks of north carolina where we're already getting some coastal erosion. also impacting rip currents so be aware of that if you're heading out into the water. hopefully not a big time of year for that. rainshowers across northern florida and into central florida. even around orlando. it's still busy in the west. we've got another cold front pushing in for saturday bringing more wet weather with it. 61 in san francisco, 52 in minneapolis. that's your saturday outlook. on sunday, pretty quiet across the area with the ex sense of the outer banks where we

weather-wise. we're going to see quite a bit of rain, washington, oregon, california, nevada, idaho, and then moving into wyoming, parts of colorado, utah, and montana. still a few showers throughout the extreme southeast coast here along the atlantic side. the warmest air will be in the south. and it's even going to be mild in the northern plains. 56 in minneapolis is quite mild for this time of year. one storm after another moving into the pacific northwest. watch those snow levels come down saturday night into sunday. be careful when you're traveling through the mountain passes in the coming weeks in the west because those snow levels will fluctuate. there will be times it will be dangerous to travel through those mountain passes. so check the latest conditions before you head through the mountains. here's a look at the temperatures for sunday. still very mild, well above average in some cases 20 degrees above average throughout parts of the upper midwest. cold front eventually going to swing through on monday bringing a chance for some showers. still looking at the pacific north

the way into florida where we have the rains along the west coast especially central california up to the pacific northwest with temperatures in the 60s and 50s. not a lot of cold air with this system. these systems i should say coming through. the snow levels will drop friday once the cold front makes it through the cascades. expect snow levels to be up past level. that could be a problem. make sure to have your winter survival kit with you. the front is draped across the ohio valley. we'll see snowshowers north of it, rainshowers as well. temperatures here in the 30s in boston. but notice the 60s, the 70s, a big warmup here in the central plains. it's going to get warmer. that front lifts northward. now we're in the 50s in chicago. atlanta in the mid 60s on saturday. okafor what what a gorgeous weekend. the pacific northwest not so nice. major changes here. we continue with the storms coming in on sunday from san francisco all the way to seattle. there could be power outages, landslides, mudslides, lots of rain expected. very dangerous in this part of the country here coming up t
